Fascicle twenty-seven of that sūtra says: "The Buddha told Subhūti: 'Names are not real; they are provisionally called names.'" The intention of citing this was already seen in the preceding text. First is the statement in terms of phenomena, meaning that all phenomena are not real, and names are also provisional. The subsequent three sentences explain by analogy. Among them, the first sentence is the sūtra text, and the next two sentences are an interpretive explanation. It means that when an illusory person is formed, it seems not to be non-existent; but how could a semblance be real? Hence it says "not real".
