夫以名求物，物無當名之實；以物求名，名無得物之功。物無當名之實，非物也；名無得物之功，非名也。

Now, seeking a thing by means of a name, the thing has no reality corresponding to the name; seeking a name by means of a thing, the name has no efficacy of obtaining the thing. When a thing has no reality corresponding to the name, it is not a thing; when a name has no efficacy of obtaining the thing, it is not a name.
