承遠法師之勝常，以為欣慰。雖未清承，然服膺（心）高軌，企佇之勤為日久矣。公以過順之年，湛氣彌厲（嚴勁），養徒幽巖、抱一冲（深）谷，遐邇仰詠，何美如之。每亦翹（舉足）想一隅、懸庇（廕）霄岸（際），無由寫（盡）敬，致慨良深。

Hearing of Master Yuan's continued well-being brings me joy and solace. Although I have not received his pure instruction in person, I have taken to heart his exalted standard, and my earnest yearning has lasted for many days. The Venerable Master, having passed the age of compliance, has a clear vital energy that is all the more rigorous; nurturing disciples amid the secluded crags and embracing oneness within the deep valleys, he is revered and sung of near and far—what beauty could equal this? I, too, constantly turn my thoughts from my remote corner, suspended under his protection at the limits of heaven; lacking the means to convey my full respect, my heartfelt sighs run truly deep.
