書不云乎：為學者日益，為道者日損。為道者，為於無為者也。為於無為而日日損，此豈頓得之謂？要損之又損之，以至於無損耳。

Does not the book say: “In pursuing learning, one increases day by day; in pursuing the Dao, one decreases day by day”? Pursuing the Dao means acting in accordance with the unconditioned. Acting in accordance with the unconditioned while decreasing day by day—how could this be called sudden attainment? It is necessary to decrease it and decrease it further, until one reaches the state of no further decrease.
