初二句推因，謂心有好尚於後位，所以進修其勝分；身有涉求於眾德，所以復出於自分。次二句顯其過患，取後捨前、損障益德，皆分別之動。

The first two sentences trace the cause, meaning that because the mind has preference for subsequent stages, it advances to cultivate its superior portion; and because the body has pursuit and aspiration for myriad virtues, it emerges again from its own portion. The next two sentences reveal the fault: taking what follows and discarding what precedes, decreasing hindrances and increasing virtues, are all the movement of discrimination.
