1.62

行大乘者，謂六度等。故無性云：「亦乘亦大，故名大乘。」又《勝鬘》云「正法住等既是行法，名曰大乘。」《法花論》言「方便者，聲聞觀蘊、界、處，厭苦離苦。菩薩修六度、四攝、二利，即順大乘。」若根本行、若方便行，皆名行大乘。

The Mahāyāna of practice refers to the six pāramitās and so forth. Therefore Asvabhāva said: "It is both a vehicle and great, hence it is called the Great Vehicle." Furthermore, the Śrīmālādevī-sūtra says: "Since the abiding of the true Dharma and so forth are dharmas of practice, they are called the Great Vehicle." The Saddharmapuṇḍarīkôpadeśa says: "As for expedients: śrāvakas contemplate the aggregates, dhātus, and āyatanas, loathing suffering and escaping suffering. Bodhisattvas cultivate the six pāramitās, the four means of embracing, and the two benefits, which accord with the Mahāyāna." Whether fundamental practices or expedient practices, all are called the Mahāyāna of practice.
