Next, [the master] says: "Sons of the Buddha! These six pāramitā precepts should constantly be guarded and upheld, diligently practiced and cultivated, without allowing for negligence. If you backslide, you lose the forty-two dharmas of the noble and worthy. Make your minds firm, and you must not intentionally commit infractions. Can you uphold this?" (Instructing them to answer, "I can uphold it.") If following the tenth [chapter], it completely contains the methods for receiving, keeping robes, demarcating boundaries, rains retreat, pravāraṇā, and so on, as detailed there. However, with respect to the rules for a renunciant upāsaka, there are still the novice precepts and the full precepts. The third fascicle says: If an upāsaka, having upheld the precepts, is cautious about the major grave [offenses]—what are the major grave offenses? The first is delusion and sexual misconduct; the second is killing a person who has [aroused] bodhicitta; the third is stealing the property of the Triratna; the fourth is being unfilial to parents; the fifth is showing arrogance toward one's master; the sixth is killing a human being; the seventh is anger and jealousy; the eighth is stinginess and poverty. If one commits such pārājika offenses, one will enter the great hells for a full great aeon; when the aeon ends, one will be reborn again, revolving thus for countless aeons. Slandering the Triratna is also like this.
