Eighth, the precepts that bring happiness in this and future lives briefly has nine kinds: namely, that bodhisattvas, for the sake of sentient beings, prohibit what should be prohibited, permit what should be permitted, correctly gather what should be gathered, and correctly tame what should be tamed. The bodhisattva's bodily and verbal actions constantly proceeding in purity therein are called four kinds. Furthermore, the pure precepts practiced in conjunction with the other five pāramitās constitute five kinds. These are called nine, and because they can bring peace and happiness to oneself and others in the present and the future, they are called the precepts that bring happiness in two lives.
