一切種者，六種、七種。言六種者：一善靜慮、二無記變化、三奢摩他品、四毘鉢舍那品、五自他利正審思惟、六能引神通威力功德靜慮。言七種者：一者名緣靜慮、二義緣、三止相緣、四舉相緣、五捨相緣、六現法樂住、七能饒益他。

All kinds [of dhyāna]: six kinds and seven kinds. The six kinds are: 1. wholesome dhyāna; 2. indeterminate transformation; 3. the class of śamatha; 4. the class of vipaśyanā; 5. correct and careful contemplation of benefit for oneself and others; 6. dhyāna capable of inducing supernormal powers, sovereign authority, and virtues. The seven kinds are: 1. dhyāna whose object is names; 2. [dhyāna whose object is] meanings; 3. [dhyāna whose object is] the mark of calming; 4. [dhyāna whose object is] the mark of uplifting; 5. [dhyāna whose object is] the mark of equanimity; 6. abiding in happiness in the present life; 7. being able to benefit others.
