3.64

若見諸比丘隨所見業，見已恭肅敬心，禮拜親近問訊，應作是念：若我恒沙劫，常於天祀中，大施不休廢，不如一出家。又念：在家多諸過患，出家皆無。隨應廣說，念出家者所行法事、所得功德、我何時得？廣說三乘所有行相。

If he sees bhikṣus engaged in whatever duties, upon seeing them he pays homage with an attitude of solemn respect, approaching and inquiring after them, and should reflect: 'Even if for as many kalpas as the sands of the Ganges, I were always to make great offerings without interruption in heavenly shrines, it would not equal a single person leaving home.' Furthermore, he reflects: 'Household life has many faults and perils, while the renunciant life has none of them.' As appropriate, he reflects at length: 'The Dharmic activities performed and the virtues obtained by those who have left home—when will I obtain them?' He should contemplate at length all the aspects of practice of the three vehicles.
