The Great Sage and Hero endowed with the ten powers and five eyes,
Sought the Dharma for sentient beings throughout boundless kalpas.
His eighty-four thousand wondrous treasure-stores of teachings
All tally with that true, supreme other shore.
Revealing and showing them in accord with capacities to bring each to understanding,
He is therefore named the Munificent One, the Dharma King.
When the Buddha-sun expediently set behind the mountain of nirvāṇa,
The correct teaching accordingly went hidden and the eye of wisdom was extinguished.
The holy assemblies of the ten stages and the three ranks of the worthy,
Pitying sentient beings and protecting the Dharma, commented upon the profound sūtras.
In the degenerate age, life, mindfulness, and the practice of wisdom are faint;
Most people follow their personal sentiments and are confused about the holy intention.
Explicating the correct teaching one-sidedly according to their own views,
They delude themselves and others, obstructing the flow of the Dharma.
Now, gathering sūtras and treatises to harmonize these diverse texts,
I elucidate the Dharma to deliver living beings and bring them to correct understanding.
Therefore, bowing my head, I take refuge in the Three Jewels,
Praying only that out of compassion they bestow their protection.
