問：「若於地上不留煩惱，云何大悲同事攝生？」答：「若於地前及始教中願智力劣故，留煩惱助願受生。今此不爾，願智勝故，自在同生。」

Question: "If upon the grounds one does not retain afflictions, how does one gather sentient beings through great compassion and sameness of endeavor?"
Answer: "Prior to the grounds and in the initial teaching, because the power of vows and gnosis is weak, one retains afflictions to assist the vows in receiving rebirth. Now here it is not like that: because vows and gnosis are superior, one is reborn together [with them] with sovereignty."
