As for the approach of distinguishing characteristics: this is the distinct teaching One Vehicle, which is distinct from the Three Vehicles. For example, in the Saddharmapuṇḍarīka-sūtra, the three carts outside the gate pointed out inside the house, which entice the children and enable them to escape, are the teaching of the Three Vehicles. The bullock cart bestowed in the open ground outside the realm is the teaching of the One Vehicle.
