Second is the door of the mutual containment of the one and the many without losing their distinctness. Any single door among these various principles above completely includes the preceding dharma-doors of cause and fruition, principle and phenomena, and all others; just as that initial coin includes the inexhaustible principles, this is also likewise. Yet, although this one contains the many, the one is still not identical to the many; the one within the many and so forth should be contemplated in accord with the above, because every single other door is also like this, layer upon layer inexhaustible. Therefore, a verse of this sūtra says: / 'Filling the ten directions with a single buddha-field, / The ten directions enter the one field with nothing left behind; / The original characteristics of the worlds are also not destroyed: / This is possible because of incomparable merit.' / Yet, although this one and many mutually contain each other, sovereign and unobstructed, their essences are still distinct. The reason is as explained above in the meaning of the coins. Here there are identical-body and different-body; it can be understood by contemplating in accord with the above.
