Furthermore, according to the Sanskrit manuscript, a chapter is placed after the spiritual friend Maitreya, explaining the preceding text of the path; this is the chapter "Maitreya Free from Craving, Named Sudhana's Inquiries". After the spiritual friend Samantabhadra and before the recitation of the verses, it says: "Samantabhadra Free from Craving, [chapter name] concluded". According to the textual form here, the sūtra text from after Mañjuśrī's travels in the south, before the "Entry into the Dharmadhātu" chapter, constitutes the three great meanings within the greatness of the teaching. From the earlier Mañjuśrī to the later Maitreya is the greatness of the gradual accomplishment of the cause. From the later Mañjuśrī to the later Samantabhadra is the greatness of the accomplishment of the cause, because it is the universal Dharma. The verse text of Samantabhadra is the greatness of the accomplishment of the cultivation expounded by the teaching, because while in the cause it expounds the realization of the Buddha. This has two meanings: first, the cultivation of realization from the first ground upward extends to the Buddha ground, which is the demarcation of realization; now, in reliance upon the expounded teaching, it is called the greatness of the accomplishment of cultivation expounded by the teaching. Second, the cultivation of contemplation relies on the meaning of the ranks of comparison prior to the grounds, meaning non-conceptual contemplation; now, in reliance upon the expounded teaching, it is called the greatness of the accomplishment of cultivation expounded by the teaching. This cultivation expounded by the teaching universally resides within the two great ranks of the accomplishment of the cause and the gradual accomplishment of the cause, serving to eliminate faults and manifest the principle.
