The ten powers are: the power of knowing what is possible and what is impossible; the power of knowing one's own actions; the power of knowing dhyāna, liberation, samādhi, and samāpatti; the power of knowing the sharpness and dullness of faculties; the power of knowing various inclinations; the power of knowing various dispositions; the power of knowing the paths leading to all destinations; the power of knowing past lives; the power of knowing death and rebirth; and the power of knowing the exhaustion of outflows. They cannot be subdued, and are therefore called 'powers'. They are boundless wise capabilities, and are therefore called 'powers'. This is a Triyāna meaning; the names are identical to the Hīnayāna, but the meanings differ in height according to the two traditions. In the Hīnayāna, they are real as spoken; in the initial teaching, they are empty; in the final teaching, they are suchness; in the sudden teaching, they are ineffable; the meaning in the Ekayāna can be known as the Nārāyaṇa-banner and other powers in the 'Chapter on Inconceivable Dharmas'.
