Regarding the four families: first is the family of prajñā; second is the family of the truths; third is the family of relinquishing afflictions; fourth is the family of the purification of suffering. Being encompassed by an abiding-place is called a 'family'; a 'family' is a dwelling. Within the seventh bhūmi, having accomplished the factors of awakening over a long duration, all hindrances are purified, and finally, effortful signlessness is brought to completion, and one is furthermore able in the future to accomplish the principle of effortless signlessness; hence it is called a 'family.' This doctrine resides in the Triyāna. If it is designated by the Ekayāna, then it belongs to the Ekayāna. 'The family of prajñā' is prajñā of true nature. 'The family of truths' is named 'truth' because its nature is real. 'The family of relinquishing afflictions' refers to natural purity, being free from afflictions. 'The family of the purification of suffering' means that the nature of suffering is itself empty, which is named 'purification of suffering.' The rest of the doctrine is as in the separate chapter.
