Latent impressions are of three kinds: 1. the perfuming of nominal designation and the perfuming of consciousness; 2. the perfuming of form-consciousness, the perfuming of consciousness-consciousness, and the perfuming of view-consciousness; 3. the perfuming of afflictions, the perfuming of karma, and the perfuming of retribution. All such perfumings extend across the defiled, pure, and indeterminate. Broadly divided, there are two kinds: 1. seed perfuming; 2. active consciousness perfuming. They also extend to the intermediate state and the birth state, varying according to superior, middling, and inferior, up to immeasurable eighty-four thousand, and so forth. If relying on the Hīnayāna, its meaning is real; in the initial teaching it is empty; in the final teaching it is Thusness; if viewed by the Ekayāna, it is the Ekayāna; if according to the distinct teaching, it is immeasurable. The rest is as in the other chapters.
