問：「此與前主伴經何別？」答：「略由三別：一、前經文句必與主同，此即不爾；二、彼必結通十方同說，此亦不爾；三、彼經亦有為主之義，此亦不爾。是故彼經亦主亦伴，名主伴經；此即唯伴非主，名眷屬經。與彼不同分二部耳。」

Question: "What is the difference between this and the previous Host-and-Companion Sūtra?" Answer: "Briefly, there are three differences: First, the phrases and sentences of the previous sūtra are necessarily the same as the host's, whereas here this is not so. Second, that one necessarily integrates the ten directions in simultaneous expounding, whereas here this is also not so. Third, that sūtra also possesses the sense of being a host, whereas here this is also not so. Therefore, that sūtra is both host and companion, named the Host-and-Companion Sūtra; this one is solely companion and not host, named the Retinue Sūtra. They differ from one another and are merely divided into two categories."
