First, among the four propositions: arising in reliance upon the preceding and succeeding is the meaning of non-arising, because it cannot arise on its own; inducing the posterior is the meaning of non-ceasing, because it has efficacy. Both and neither should be contemplated accordingly. Furthermore, because the preceding thought-moment ceases, there is non-arising; because the posterior thought-moment arises, there is non-ceasing. Both and neither should be contemplated.
