Third, within determining wisdom there are also two: (1) understanding, meaning being able to generate right understanding, and yet understanding and knowing that understanding and practice are distinct; (2) practice, meaning not being like what is understood, because understanding cannot reach it, [practicing] with a non-conceptual mind and practice conforming to Dharma, [abandoning] deluded sentiments, and so forth. Furthermore, this practice is accomplished relying on understanding; also, when practice appears before one, that understanding must be severed. Furthermore, regarding the object, select it through the three empties and disordered thoughts; regarding practice, select them through mutual non-conceptual wisdom, and the meaning will then be seen. Furthermore, the expedients for entering the Path are briefly made into four gates: (1) the gate of repenting and eliminating past obstacles, (2) the gate of giving rise to the bodhicitta, (3) the gate of receiving the bodhisattva precepts, and (4) the gate of creating and cultivating superior practices.
