Ninth, determining host and companion: A dust mote is the dharmadhātu; its essence has no boundaries and pervades all, which is the host; those all are each distinct, which is the companion. Yet the companion is not different from the host, necessarily taking the entire host to form the companion; the host is not different from the companion, also taking the entire companion to form the host. The host and the companion mutually support and mutually subsume each other. If they mutually subsume, each negates the other, and one cannot separately speak of 'all'; if they mutually support, then each affirms the other, and one cannot identically speak of 'all.' Because the host is the companion and the companion is the host, they are both identical and different. One should know that within the host there is also host and companion, and within the companion there is also companion and host.
