Answer: "Relying on what the Awakening of Faith says: 'If one cultivates cessation, one should abide in a quiet place, sitting upright with correct mindfulness. One does not rely on breathing, nor on visible form, nor on emptiness, nor on earth, water, fire, or wind, nor even on seeing, hearing, perceiving, or knowing. All thoughts are eliminated as they arise, and the thought of eliminating is also dismissed. Because all phenomena are fundamentally free of thought, they are unproduced from thought to thought, and unextinguished from thought to thought; nor should one follow the mind in externally thinking of cognitive objects. Then one eliminates mind by means of mind; if the mind runs astray, one should immediately rein it in, bringing it back to correct mindfulness.' Constantly and diligently maintaining the correct mindfulness of contemplation of mere-mind consciousness, all demonic realms will naturally stay far away. Ordinary beginners cannot yet distinguish the heterodox from the orthodox; the net of Māra enters the mind to deceive the practitioner, and having no master to consult, they have nothing to rely upon. Taking the machinations of the four Māras to be the correct path, as days and months pass and their heterodox views deepen, even if they encounter good conditions, it will ultimately be difficult to change. Sinking into the ocean of suffering, there will be no way of liberation. One must examine this deeply within oneself, never letting [vigilance] lapse for even an instant." This meaning is as explained in the Awakening of Faith.
