Fifth is the cessation of non-marks through profound interpenetration of principle and phenomena. This means that the phenomena of illusory marks and the principle of naturelessness alternately conceal and manifest each other; hence it is called "profound interpenetration." Furthermore, because principle is manifested through cultivation, phenomena penetrate through to principle; because practice arises from principle, principle penetrates through to phenomena. Mutually preserving and mutually negating each other, it is therefore called "profound interpenetration." As for "profound interpenetration," it means that great wisdom alone persists with its essence pervading the dharma-realm, while great compassion rescues beings through the manifold array of myriad practices; compassion and wisdom are doubly fused, and nature and marks are both obliterated. Therefore it is called the cessation of non-marks through profound interpenetration of principle and phenomena.
