Ninth, the gate of preservation and cessation of multiple phenomena. Now, when the many are viewed in relation to the one, since there is gathering the other and discarding oneself, mutual identity, and preservation and cessation, this also has ten meanings. First: because the many gather the one to be identical with oneself, the many are preserved. Second: because the many discard themselves to be identical with the one, the many are eradicated. Third: because the preceding two meanings are not separated from each other, preservation and cessation both appear. Fourth: mutually contrasting and negating are both exhausted; hence both are negated. Fifth: because not failing to gather the one to be identical with the many means there is no discarding the many to be identical with the one; thus, being preserved is precisely being eradicated. Sixth: not failing to be identical with the one means there is no gathering the one; thus being eradicated is precisely being preserved. Seventh: because preserved is precisely eradicated, there is eradication; because eradicated is precisely preserved, there is preservation. The two meanings are not separated from each other; hence preserved-eradicated and eradicated-preserved appear together. Eighth: because being preserved is never not eradicated, it is not preserved; because being eradicated is never not preserved, it is not eradicated. The two meanings mutually contrast and negate, both being lost; hence both are negated. Ninth: because the eight meanings are in the same state and mutually accordant, the substance of the dharma is established; therefore, it is completely interfused and unobstructed, appearing together. Tenth: because the preceding meanings mutually negate one another and cannot be definitively seized upon, there is none that is not transcendent. Standing independently without reliance, it is realized only in awakening. Understand the meaning and contemplate it.
