第二、揀亂意者，謂《寶性論》明地前菩薩有三種空亂意，以不了知真如來藏生死涅槃二際平等，執三種空：一謂斷滅故空，初句揀之；二取色外空，第三句揀之；三者謂空為有，第二句揀之。既揀三種不正之空，故第四句說真空也。

Second, regarding eliminating confused thoughts: The Ratnagotravibhāga clarifies that bodhisattvas prior to the stages have three kinds of confused thoughts about emptiness, because they do not understand that the true tathāgatagarbha is equal across the two limits of saṃsāra and nirvāṇa, and thus cling to three kinds of emptiness: First, considering emptiness to be annihilation, which the first proposition eliminates; second, seizing upon emptiness outside of form, which the third proposition eliminates; third, considering emptiness to be existent, which the second proposition eliminates. Having eliminated the three improper views of emptiness, the fourth proposition explains true emptiness.
