余久深玄籍，注想《華嚴》，此之一觀久而究盡，不鏡方寸，虛負性靈，故名法界玄鏡，時已從心之歲矣。本文結云華嚴法亦玄一卷（有本無玄字，今依有本也）。今夾本文在內，別題云華嚴法界玄鏡。

I have long immersed myself in profound texts, focusing my thoughts on the Avataṃsaka; this single contemplation I have long and thoroughly investigated. If one does not mirror it within one’s heart, one vainly fails one's spiritual nature; hence it is named The Mysterious Mirror of the Dharmadhātu. At that time, I was already of the age of following my heart's desires. The original text concluded, saying: The Huayan Dharma Is Also Mysterious, in one fascicle (some versions lack the character xuan; we now follow the versions that have it). Now, interspersing the original text within, it is separately titled The Mysterious Mirror of the Avataṃsaka Dharmadhātu.
