Acting as rain and dew within the ocean of afflictions;
Serving as cloud and thunder upon the mountain of ignorance.
This verse: Lacking Dharma-wealth is called poor; possessing hindrance of defilements is called sick—these are the illnesses of ordinary people and non-Buddhists. Exclusively seeking self-benefit is called solitary; lacking a bright guide is called orphaned—these are the illnesses of the Lesser Vehicle. Therefore, the supreme sage tallies with the wondrous principle of the Middle Way, viewing emptiness and existence equally, exercising compassion and wisdom to set up provisional and real teachings, kindly shading the poor and sick, and wisely rescuing the solitary and orphaned, like obtaining the wheel-turning king's topknot jewel to universally enrich all.
