大記云：五十四角者，下文云「何故印文唯有一道？答：表如來一音故」云云。將〈性起品〉十種音歷對五乘機，即成五十。此能應佛具將四攝、四無量，故云四角也。

The Great Record says: "Regarding the fifty-four corners, the text below says: 'Why is there only one single line in the seal text? Answer: To express the single voice of the Tathāgata,' and so forth. Applying the ten kinds of voices from the 'Chapter on Nature Manifestation' to the capacities of the five vehicles yields fifty. This Buddha, who is able to respond, fully takes up the four methods of containment (saṃgrahavastu) and the four immeasurables (apramāṇa); therefore they are called the four corners."
