Fa's Record says: What is dharma? We borrow the causal aspect to explain it. If pointing forcibly, it is your body and mind. What is nature? It is perfect interfusion. How is it perfectly interfused? Because there are no dual characteristics. Is it non-dual because it is one, or is it non-dual while being two? It is not that it is one and therefore non-dual; it is directly said to be non-dual in the very presence of two characteristics. What are all dharmas? They are dharmatā. Why are they immovable? Because of perfect interfusion. Why are they originally calm? Because there are no dual characteristics. In the locus that is originally calm, can a name be obtained? It cannot be named, because it is nameless. Why is it nameless? Because it is signless. Why is it signless? Because it cuts off everything. If so, are cultivation and realization also cut off herein? They are cut off. Are there truly no cultivation and realization? Truly there are none. Yet the sages also cultivate and realize, and it is necessary to cultivate and realize. How does one cultivate and realize? If it can be instructed, it belongs to the teaching aspect; it is solely the place where the great person applies his mind well, not the realm of anything else. Within this realization aspect, are all dharmas complete or deficient? They are complete. If so, does it also possess the imaginary non-dharmas? How could it possess them? Then is it deficient? How could it be deficient? This means that there is not a single thing that is not the universal Dharma. How could it possess them? Without moving, the imaginary non-dharmas are themselves the fulfilling dharmas; how could it be deficient? Therefore Master Yan said: "In the One Vehicle, what dharma is deficient? Non-dharmas are deficient. What dharma is not deficient? Non-dharmas are not deficient."
