大記云：如五乘說人法因果乃至准例如是等者，五乘則三乘、小乘、人天乘也。准例如是等者，隨機緣而五乘雖別，其五乘法與一乘不異也。謂前約隨機所分五乘論行者已，此中約其法，則准例可知也。一云：非約一乘十種普法言准例也，約五乘中所有人法等云耳。謂如攝五乘入一乘中，其五乘所有人法等亦得總攝入一乘故也。

The Great Record states: '"As expounded in the five vehicles regarding persons, dharmas, causes, and effects," up to "by analogy it is like this": The five vehicles are the three vehicles, the Small Vehicle, and the human and heavenly vehicles. "By analogy it is like this" means that although the five vehicles differ according to capacities and conditions, the dharmas of these five vehicles are not different from the One Vehicle. That is to say, having previously discussed practitioners in terms of the five vehicles divided according to capacity, here, in terms of their dharmas, by analogy it can be understood. One interpretation says: It is not speaking of analogy in terms of the ten kinds of universal dharmas of the One Vehicle, but merely in terms of all the persons, dharmas, etc., within the five vehicles. That is, just as the five vehicles are subsumed into the One Vehicle, all the persons, dharmas, etc., of those five vehicles can also be completely subsumed into the One Vehicle.'
