The Great Record says: Regarding 'If you desire to contemplate pratītyasamutpāda… up to counting ten coins': the Kai zong states: 'The method of counting ten coins is the supreme medicine for curing the illness of clinging, and the most superior gate for accomplishing unobstructed virtue.' The explanation says: If one can thoroughly realize this method of counting coins, then amid various sense-objects in daily activities, wherever one hears and sees, one neither grasps nor clings; in each and every pore and in each and every dust mote, one sees all Buddhas and hears all dharmas; giving rise to thoughts, moving the mind, lifting the feet and putting down the feet, all that is undertaken is entirely the ultimate, perfect Buddha-work. Therefore, it is said to be the supreme medicine for curing illness and the most superior gate for accomplishing virtue.
