The Great Record states: '"As one wishes" (ruyi) derives its name from a metaphor. Up to "nothing is not as one wishes": this is just like the wish-fulfilling jewel-king (cintāmaṇi), which, if acquired by a person devoid of merit, transforms into a poisonous snake and instead harms that person; but if acquired by a person possessing merit, it rains down inexhaustible treasures according to their desires, generously bestowing them upon poor people. The principle of the universal Dharma of the One Vehicle is also like this: if an inferior capacity devoid of perfect faith hears it, they grasp onto their own emotional views, generate doubts, and produce slander, falling back into the evil destinies to suffer inexhaustible suffering; but if a person of great mind and right faith hears it, then as soon as they hear it, they immediately believe, immediately obtaining the benefit of the One Vehicle that accords with the nature, vastly benefiting oneself and others, so that nothing is not as one wishes.'
