夫以法性茫茫無岸、佛海眇眇無盡，斯則闡提成佛極說、非情皆成盛談，極位大聖難窮、通慧賢者叵度，何況末代凡愚，豈稱大師妙意？故今私識探處處文開成佛旨，略作五門：一者出成佛種、二者辨定得人、三者顯教差別、四者疾得成佛種類門、五者問答分別門。

Now, the dharma-nature is vast and shoreless, and the ocean of Buddhahood is boundless and inexhaustible. That icchantikas attain Buddhahood is the ultimate teaching; that insentient beings all attain it is the sublime discourse. Even great sages of the highest stages can hardly exhaust it, and worthies of penetrating wisdom can scarcely measure it—how much less can the ordinary and foolish of the final age match the marvelous intent of the Great Master? Therefore, according to my own limited understanding, I have searched the scriptures in various places to disclose the purport of attaining Buddhahood, briefly presenting five sections: first, revealing the lineages of attaining Buddhahood; second, determining the persons who attain it; third, explaining the differences among the teachings; fourth, the section on the varieties of swiftly attaining Buddhahood; and fifth, the section on questions, answers, and discriminations.
