The six items above are called 'light property gathered by virtue of utility.' Because their material substance is heavy, they are profoundly unsuited for bodily wearing. Yet according to circumstance they tend toward necessity, unsurpassed by anything else; therefore, following seasonal utility, they are routinely gathered into light property. Since the Sage's regulation allowed them, there is no fixed quantity: the Vinaya allows knives, pātras, and other various utensils to be distributed among the present saṅgha. Although not mentioned beyond this, in accordance with the principle they certainly must be included: needle, thread, knife, and ruler are sufficient to make robes; hooks, rings, discs, and toggles are constant essential requisites for clothing; items like censer burners and washing ewers, and things like spoons, chopsticks, bowls, and cups. Whether the texts are explicit or implicit, when measured by circumstance and principle, they are all as listed above and broadly judged as light property.
