2.118

大唐貞觀十一年，歲在丁酉春末，於隰州益詞谷中撰次。余以自古至今，諸有綴述多埋名而顯相，少時代而開今，遂令披讀悶於人世，故分明昧，用表幽心。

Compiled in the late spring of the dingyou year, the eleventh year of the Zhenguan reign of the Great Tang, in the Yici Valley of Xizhou. Considering that from antiquity down to the present, most writings conceal their authors' names while displaying outward forms, and rarely note their historical era to instruct the present—thereby leaving readers in the worldly realm bewildered—I have distinguished the clear from the obscure to express my hidden thought.
