It is also said: The rule of a bhikṣu is to cherish few desires and contentment. Therefore, when the Buddha saw a dhūta practitioner, he allowed them to share a room and lodge together, whereas for those who accumulated stores, they could not remain during the same rains retreat. Truly, this is because few desires reveal the initial gateway to entering the Way, while extensive accumulation is the shame of constant worldliness. Therefore, regarding worldly clothing, while alive one is completely forbidden from wearing it, and upon death it is completely excluded from distribution. This causes those who remain alive to refrain from wearing and using it, with an intention directed toward discipline along the Way, not established in vain. With such earnest entrustment, regarding that fault, I have ventured to amend it, using what came after to explain what came before, hoping that those who see this admonition will fortunately consider it as a final charge.
