2.123

又云。言非助道，雖是佛說亦違；縱是凡言，雖非經文亦準。故佛言，雖非我制，於餘方為清淨者，不得不行。此則佛自明言，何得相通輕攝？況不識王衣邊服之相，故準而入輕，前行迷而非過，後結悟而是福。用上諸誨，可不信歟？

It is also said: If a statement does not support the Way, even if spoken by the Buddha, it should be set aside; even if it is worldly speech, though not in the sūtra text, it should be followed. Therefore the Buddha said: 'Although it was not instituted by me, if it is pure in another region, you must practice it.' Since the Buddha clearly said this himself, how could one conflate them and classify [worldly garments] as light property? How much less so when one fails to recognize the characteristics of royal garments and border robes, and thus wrongly judges them as light property! Previous actions out of delusion were not faults, but subsequent realization brings blessing. Taking the above instructions to heart, how could one not believe them?
