1.16

小乘論云：「敬者，以慚為體也。由我德薄，前境尊高，故行敬也。」今反無慚不恥，深可笑也。

A Hīnayāna treatise says: “Reverence takes modesty as its essence. Because my own virtue is slight and the objective realm before me is exalted, I therefore practice reverence.” Nowadays, conversely, people lack modesty and feel no shame, which is deeply laughable.
