大乘論云：「由信及智，故敬於彼。信故非邪，智故興敬。」故引誠教，信智及慚，敬之本矣。
A Mahāyāna treatise says: “Due to faith and wisdom, one reveres that [object]. Because of faith one is not heterodox; because of wisdom one gives rise to reverence.” Therefore, citing sincere teachings: faith, wisdom, and modesty are indeed the roots of reverence.
