1.26

依經律論，明立敬儀。佛告比丘：「汝等共相恭敬，迎逆問訊，從何為始？」比丘白佛，各言其志。或云大姓貴族者，或云神智高達者，或云佛所宗親者，或云道登聖果者，以事舉之。

Relying on the sūtras, vinaya, and treatises, the rites of reverence are clarified. The Buddha addressed the bhikṣus: “When you show reverence to one another, welcoming and inquiring after each other, where should it begin?” The bhikṣus addressed the Buddha, each stating his view. Some spoke of great clans and noble lineages, some spoke of those with high and penetrating spiritual wisdom, some spoke of the Buddha's own kinsmen, and some spoke of those whose attainment of the Way had reached the sacred fruits, citing various factors.
