What is now compiled here is for beginners: if it were not explicitly presented, the minds that arise would have nowhere to anchor. If one merely tells them to be mindful of the Buddha, they will become listless and entangled; therefore, I meticulously display the forms, directing the arising of their minds and pointing out their focus, so that with such concentrated attention they may forever sever hesitation and doubt, their mental nature may awaken, and the karma they produce will be pure and white. Were it not so, they would follow old habits in foolish, dull ignorance; though one applied needles and moxa, their sickness would run so deep they would not perceive it.
