Next, the great courtyard to the north is named the Place of the Buddha's Walking Meditation. A single gate opens to the south. In the center is a great hall, before which are two jeweled pillars made by Śakra, shining constantly day and night. The Buddha frequented this courtyard often, its adornments far surpassing other places, with renowned flowers and wondrous trees doubly superior to the previous courtyard. There are two suites of heavenly music; the instruments offered by Śakra are made purely of the seven treasures, smaller in form than the previous instruments. Heavenly youths constantly drum them throughout the six periods of the day, with over thirty thousand varieties. Before they are played, within the musical tones, they mostly speak of the practices of the six pāramitās, and also speak of the virtues of upholding and accomplishing them, praising those who receive and practice them. Those in the city of Śrāvastī whose faculties are deficient obtain wholeness upon hearing the tones. When those who have broken the precepts hear them, they weep, confess, and their precept-roots are restored. When Kāśyapa ascended the platform, having interred the two holy ones, and Ānanda mounted the seat, the heavenly youths played this music again, the sounds proclaiming the Vinaya methods practiced by past Buddhas, and also speaking of Śākyamuni Tathāgata instructing his disciples in the practice of the vinaya precepts. Hearing this, all the eight classes of devas and nāgas wept. When the compilation was completed, the Tuṣita devas took it up to the heavens. It is now at Maitreya Buddha's dwelling.
