'Furthermore, there are sentient beings whose two eyes are blind, seeing nothing at all, who crash into trees or fall into ditches and pits. When they die there, they take on another body, and once born, they are again just like this. By what sin is this caused?' The Buddha said: 'In their past lives, they did not believe in sin and blessing, obstructed the Buddha's light, sewed shut the eyes of others, caged and confined sentient beings, or put leather bags over their heads so that they could not see. Due to these causes and conditions, they receive this retribution.'
