Today, assembly sharing this karmic endeavor in the bodhimaṇḍa, once again with utmost sincerity and single-mindedness listen attentively! Bodhisattva Viśuddhamati addressed the Buddha, saying: "Bhagavat! There are sentient beings who are stutterers, mute, and unable to speak, or if they speak, they cannot be understood clearly. What sin has caused this?" The Buddha said: "In former lives, they slandered the Three Honored Ones, despised and defamed the holy path, discussed others' merits and faults, sought out people's shortcomings, falsely accused the upright and virtuous, and hated and envied the worthy. Due to these causes and conditions, they receive this retribution of sin."
