Today, assembly sharing this karmic endeavor in the bodhimaṇḍa! Double your mental effort, incline your ears, and listen attentively! Bodhisattva Viśuddhamati addressed the Buddha, saying: "Bhagavat! There are sentient beings inside a fire city where glowing embers reach up to their chests. Though the four gates are open, as soon as they reach them, the gates close by themselves; running back and forth from east to west, they cannot escape and are completely consumed by fire. What sin has caused this?" The Buddha said: "In former lives, they set fire to mountains and marshes, drained reservoirs and ponds, and roasted eggs over fire, causing living beings to be smothered and burned to death. Due to these causes and conditions, they receive this retribution of sin."
