云何「聞種種法發菩提心」？或從佛及善知識，或從經卷，聞生滅一句，即解世、出世法，新新生滅、念念遷移；戒慧解脫，寂靜乃真。願我得佛，能說淨道（云云）。

What does it mean to "generate the bodhicitta upon hearing various dharmas"? One may hear a single phrase on arising and cessation, whether from a Buddha, a spiritual friend, or from scriptural scrolls, and immediately understand mundane and supramundane dharmas: they arise and cease anew and anew, shifting from thought-moment to thought-moment; only when morality, wisdom, and vimokṣa are tranquil and still are they real. [Such a person vows:] "May I attain Buddhahood and be able to expound the pure path!" and so forth.
