"Non-arising": suffering has no mark of affliction, for all things are empty; how could there be an emptiness capable of expelling emptiness? Form itself is emptiness; sensation, perception, volition, and consciousness are likewise; therefore there is no mark of affliction. "Accumulation has no mark of conjunction": cause and effect are both empty; how could an empty cause conjoin with an empty effect? Tracing through all greed, anger, and delusion, it is likewise. The path has no dual mark, without that which treats and that which is treated; if even one [substance] is not found in emptiness, how could there be two? Phenomena originally do not burn [with defilement], and now there is no extinction; neither burning nor extinguishing, they are therefore named the "four truths of non-arising."
