諸經明種種發菩提心，或言推種種理發菩提心，或覩佛種種相發菩提心，或覩種種神通，或聞種種法，或遊種種土，或覩種種眾，或見修種種行，或見種種法滅，或見種種過，或見他受種種苦而發菩提心。略舉十種為首廣說（云云）。

Various sūtras explain various ways of giving rise to the bodhicitta: some speak of investigating various principles to give rise to the bodhicitta; some of beholding the Buddha's various physical marks to give rise to the bodhicitta; some of beholding various supernormal powers; some of hearing various dharmas; some of roaming through various lands; some of beholding various assemblies; some of seeing various practices being cultivated; some of seeing the extinction of various dharmas; some of seeing various faults; or some of seeing others endure various sufferings to give rise to the bodhicitta. Briefly listing ten kinds as the primary ones, they are explained extensively, and so forth.
