When all four gates of the Mahāyāna become views, true words become false words because a view of words has arisen. Nirvāṇa becomes saṃsāra because greedy attachment has arisen. Taking too much ambrosia harms life and brings premature death; losing the gate of skillful means, one falls into wrong adherence, hence it is called "internal wrong views." The four views are the root of all views; self and other are further the root of both shared and causeless. Therefore, after Nāgārjuna refuted self and other, he pointed out that shared has two faults, and causeless is impossible. Since self and other are already unreal, how much more so causeless? When the root is broken, the branches collapse—his intention lies here. If self and other are established, shared and causeless are established by analogy. Now, regarding the mistaken clinging to the four gates of the Mahāyāna and Hīnayāna turning into views, having merely explained the intent of self and other, the rest can be known.
